Unusual Downham street names and their derivatives were explained during a display.

Downham Heritage Group outlined the history of names such as Dennis Sneezum Court during a display organised in the town’s library.

Mike Bullen also ran a town walk during the event and the group was able to sign up a number of new members.

Committee member Christine Austin said: “It went very nicely and the library was pleased.”

Good news continues for the group which has raised £4,200 towards its £12,000 fundraising target to transform the town’s former fire station into a museum. The total project is likely to cost £650,000 and it has already received £386,300 from the Heritage Lottery fund with further applications submitted.

n In last week’s Lynn News we published an incorrect time for the group’s forthcoming table top sale. The event will in fact be held on Sunday between 9am and 12.30pm.
