Six rescued seal pups – all named after superheroes – were returned to the wild after recovering from a really nasty virus.
All six were released together from Snettisham beach by the real life heroes of their successful rehabilitation – the animal care team at Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary!
Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Mystique and Danger Mouse were all rescued in June from the beaches between Heacham and Holme.
They were all under a week old, had been abandoned by their mothers and were suffering from a nasty marine virus, which would have proved fatal, had they not received urgent veterinary care at the Sanctuary.
After the release, Hollie Stephenson from the Seal Care team said: “We worked tirelessly to nurse them through their illness, and they have now reached a healthy 30 kilos in weight. Many of these pups were adopted by visitors and they were invited to come along to the release – wearing appropriate superhero costumes if they so wished!”
