This stunning picture of Sunday’s “supermoon” was captured in South Wootton by Matty Jessop.

The enlarged moon was seen all over the world and occurred at the perigee, when the earth and moon are at their nearest – 222,000 miles apart as opposed to 252,000 miles when they are are furthest apart. That meant that on Sunday evening about 7pm it was 14 per cent closer and 30 per cent brighter than at its furthest.

This was the closest the orbit of the moon had brought it to earth in 20 years and so was the most spectacular of this year’s three supermoons.
