Friends and family from home and abroad gathered for a surprise 80th birthday party for ardent royal watcher Mary Relph on Saturday.

The party was organised by her daughters Joanna Relph and Jeanette Graham, and attended by guests including her son David, who flew in from his home in Thailand, and veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards, who took the two pictures shown at the top of the page.

Police also gave their best wishes to Mary at Sandringham on Sunday after the regular morning service attended by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, who are expected to return to London this week. Picture above: SHEILA CLARK
