A Sutton Bridge man died after being hit by a 4x4 last winter.

Pedestrian Vidmantas Andresiunas, 51, of Withington Street, died on January 18 on the A1101 at Three Holes after being hit by the Land Rover Discovery driven by Gary Scott.

Coroner Jacqueline Lake gave a verdict of death due to a collision but stated that Mr Andresiunas had been drinking and was wearing dark clothing on a night with poor weather conditions.

Witness Stephen Hensby told Monday’s hearing at Lynn’s county court that he had seen Mr Andresiunas walking in the middle of the road close to the shops in Upwell. Mr Scott said that the incident happened as he drove back from work to pick up a dropped wage slip.

During an emotional testimony, Mr Scott said he heard a bang and a spray of colour on his windscreen.

Mrs Lake said: “The witnesses evidence is that the weather conditions on this night were very poor and cold and it had been snowing previously. I would refer to the fact that visibility was so poor on that evening which would have made it difficult for Mr Andresiunas to be seen.”
