Civic leaders have been taking a closer look at building work on Swaffham’s latest supermarket development.
A delegation led by the town’s mayor, Anne Thorp, and Breckland Council chairman Paul Claussen led a delegation of town and district councillors who toured the Tesco site on Castle Acre Road last Thursday.
As previously reported, the store is set to open this summer and is expected to create around 150 new jobs.
The group, which included eight members of Swaffham town council and Mark Kiddle-Morris, the district council’s executive member for assets, saw part of the floor of the building being laid.
Mrs Thorp, pictured above with Mr Claussen and Tony Sweeney, managing director of the site developers Millngate, said: “It is great to see the development start to breathe life into an area that has stayed dormant for so long.”
Mr Claussen added: “It is impressive to watch the journey of this development from the planning committee meeting to almost being built – from paper to near completion.”
