The Escape Project and Friends of Swaffham Orchard hosted an open afternoon at their Tumbler Hill allotments in Orford Road .

Everyone was welcome to the open day which was an opportunity for people to explore the spaces and get to know more about the projects’ positive work and the people involved.

There was pizza available from the newly made cob oven, demonstrations of traditional crafts such as green woodworking and scything, and children’s wildlife activities.

There was also be plants for sale.

Participants from the project have recently installed an irrigation system and are growing heritage and heirloom varieties of fruit and vegetables. They have also built an outdoor kitchen area and are now keeping bees.

The project has brought the community orchard on Orford Road Playing Field, planted in February 2011, back under management, training local volunteers to care for the space once the funding has come to an end.

The ESCAPE Project and Friends of Swaffham Orchard are currently recruiting volunteers.
