Thornham residents are celebrating after the parish council’s success in gaining an £8,000 grant from Sport England.

Council chairman Stephanie Mocatta said: “We are extremely pleased to receive this Sport England grant as we are actively promoting sport for Thornham and district. This money will help with mobile floodlights, a windbreak and equipment for our newly formed football club. Our cricket club is forming a second team based on the success of its first team, and our re-launched tennis club has over 50 members. We are actively seeking other ideas.”

Supporter of the successful bid, county councillor Richard Bird said: “It’s always a pleasure to help and support those councils and groups that help themselves; this whole area has, against the trends, become a beacon of what can be achieved with good leadership. I look forward to supporting the next venture.”
