Teams from across West Norfolk will be battling it out at the annual Village Games on Sunday tomorrow, Sunday, June 29.
In total around 800 competitors will be taking on a range of challenges including archery, squash and bowls at Lynnsport, with the action starting at 9.30am.
Terrington St Clement are back to defend the medium-size village section, but there will be a new winner in the small villages as Docking – winners for the last nine years – have not entered this year.
The teams involved are The Tilneys (Tilney All Saints, Tilney Cum Islington); Harpley, Houghton, Little and Great Massingham; Terrington St Clement; West Winch; Dersingham; Feltwell; GLEAM (Gayton, Leziate, Ashwicken, East Winch and Middleton); the Wiggenhalls (St Germans and Magdalen); Emneth and Marshland St James; Heacham and the Walpoles (Cross Keys, St Peter and St Andrew).
Teams will go head to head in badminton, athletics, netball, five-a-side football, mini-soccer, squash, indoor bowls, darts, archery, rounders, a fitness triathlon and gymnasticators, which is a fun event for juniors.
Points are allocated according to placing in each event and the best six results are combined to calculate a village’s total score. Winners and runners up will go through to a county final in Norwich on July 13.
David Pope, a council cabinet member, said: “There’s always a great atmosphere at the Village Games and it’s good fun for competitors and spectators alike, so come and cheer on your village.”
