Welcome to the first weekly column written by Sheila Fysh which shares some of the activities being enjoyed by Guides and Brownies in West Norfolk.

What better way to start the new year than with the Big Brownie Birthday Celebration.

The Brownie section is 100 years old this year and 99 girls from West Norfolk went along to a birthday weekend at Butlins in Skegness.

Brownie Starburst 2014 was Celebrated by over 2,500 Brownies from the Anglia Region.

One of the two coaches used for the trip was sponsored by King’s Lynn Lions.

After settling into their chalets and having an evening meal, the girls got dressed up in their disco clothes and enjoyed the evening. The atmosphere was amazing.

The brownies were kept busy over Saturday and Sunday with swimming, circus skills, singing, street dancing, games, parachute games, funfair and cinema.

Everybody had a wonderful time and it was a fantastic weekend.

Among the West Norfolk troops enjoying the weekend were: the 1st Tilney All Saints’, 4th King’s Lynn, 19th Reffley, and the 1st Terrington St Clement.
