West Norfolk Council is urging local businesses to check whether they are eligible to claim any new business rates reliefs launched by the government.
Cllr Nick Daubney, leader of the council, said: “We have contacted as many businesses as we can, who may be eligible, to inform them of the available Business Rates Reliefs. However, we think there are still businesses out there who could benefit in some way.
The new Business Rates reliefs are designed to encourage thriving town centres, decrease the number of vacant shops, promote the building of new business premises and support businesses affected by the December 2013 floods.
The new reliefs are:
n Up to £1000 discount for retail premises for 2014/15 and 2015/16
n Up to a 50per cent discount for 18 months for businesses moving into retail premises that have been empty for more than a year
n Up to 18 months with no Business Rates to pay for newly built properties if they remain empty from when they are completed
n Up to 3 months with no Business Rates to pay for properties affected by the December floods.
n No loss of Small Business Rate Relief for a year for businesses taking on a second property since 14 February 2014
Businesses may also opt to extend instalments until March and should contact firstname.lastname@example.org
