Pubs and bars across West Norfolk are gearing up for a World Cup bonanza as England kick-off their campaign tomorrow night.

Venues are pulling out all the stops to cheer on Roy’s boys as the team take on Italy in their Group D opening match in Manaus at 11pm.

Many places have installed huge TV screens to help customers watch the game in all its glory and roped in extra bar staff to cope with the number of people expected to go out for the night.

Several pubs will also be taking advantage of extra time and serving alcohol until 1am after the Government agreed a licensing hours extension specially for the tournament.

Staff have also revealed plans to dress up and will cash in on the football fever with a number of World Cup themed drinks and promotions.

World Cup or not, they’re keeping on dancing at Lynn’s Chicago Rock where football fans and dancers will don headphones to tune in to the entertainment of their choice.

Police will be carrying out extra patrols across West Norfolk to clamp down on any alcohol-fuelled violence and have urged football fans to drink sensibly.

Chief Inspector David Buckley said: “These additional resources will predominately be focused in the town centres to deal with a potential increase in public order during and following the game.

“Please remember to not over drink, arrange a way of getting home before you come out and be respectful of others. We hope everyone enjoys the game.”
