The president of a Lynn theatre group is to be honoured in January when the society’s next production is dedicated to his memory following his death this summer.
Kenneth Dearden had been a member of the West Norfolk Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Society for 60 years since the group first formed, before his death on June 23.
He was well-known for playing all the comic bass parts in the society’s productions and held many other roles with musical societies across Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
Vice-president of the group, Amanda Arterton, said: “He will be very much missed as he took a very active interest as president right up until his death.”
Ken is pictured accepting his 50 year long-service medal from the mayor, Dr Paul Richards, on behalf of the National Operatic and Dramatic association in 1999.
The group have appointed a new president, John Burgess.
Mrs Arterton said: “John was the obvious choice as he is our next longest-serving member and has performed, directed and served on the committee since 1966.”
The new president will be on-hand at the first get together on September 12, at North Wootton village hall to welcome members old and new.
