Villagers can now enjoy another way of getting fit and healthy at their local playing field thanks to new exercise and sports equipment.

A double air walker and double rower have been installed at the playing field in Water Lane, East Barsham, along with some new goal posts.

The equipment was bought thanks to a £3,000 grant from North Norfolk District Council’s Big Society Fund and £2,000 from the parish council’s own playing field funds, and was officially unveiled at a ceremony last week.

District council leader Tom Fitzpatrick said: “I can see that our grant has been very well spent, providing sports and exercise equipment for the local community.

“Such facilities are vital to the well-being of our local communities and North Norfolk District Council is delighted to have been able to play a part in supporting the vitality of these vibrant villages.”

Andrew Ross, chairman of Barsham and Houghton Parish Council, thanked Mr Fitzpatrick and county councillor Marie Strong for their support in obtaining the grant.

He added: “It has significantly improved the facilities available on the playing field, which is an important meeting place for the local community.”
