SCULTHORPE: Warnings over driving through flood water

Four people were rescued from the roof or a four-wheeled drive vehicle which had become stuck in a ford in Lynn Road, Sculthorpe, on Sunday afternoon.

David Ashton, Norfolk Fire, said: “What people need to bear in mind is that driving through flood water means the road will not be visible, you won’t know if manholes have been lifted and you cannot be sure how deep the water is.

“If water is too deep and gets into the engine of your vehicle you will be stuck which causes problems for other road users and for Norfolk Fire who put out a big response.

“Don’t drive into flood water unless absolutely essential, if you must, understand the depth of the water and its effect on your engine.”
