More than £4,500 of vital funding for the East Anglian Air Ambulance will be handed over in Swaffham today by members of the town’s parish church.
The money represents half the proceeds from a gala dinner and auction of promises that was held in the Assembly Rooms at Swaffham in November last year and attended by 100 guests.
A similar sum was raised for the appeal to replace dangerous and unstable windows, plus other important repair and maintenance work, at St Peter and St Paul Church in the town.
In total, the appeal committee, led by Baroness Shephard of Northwold and chaired by former town mayor Shirley Matthews, organised about 30 events over the past two years which, together with numerous donations, raised about £80,000.
This has enabled work to begin on replacing some of the windows and it is hoped to complete this task by Easter. The church heating system has also been improved.
