Villagers in Wereham are celebrating being a step nearer to achieving their goal of building a new community hub.
Wereham Village Hall Management Committee has submitted a second stage bid for funding via the Reaching Communities BIG Lottery Fund.
The current wooden hall is a YMCA hut from the First World War, which has restricted use due to its age.
Committee chairman, Victoria Gray, said: “We are thrilled to announce that our Stage 2 application to the Big Lottery Fund has been submitted. Following the approval of our Stage 1 application, we have held a cream tea focus group for older people and a pasta making focus group in conjunction with Adult Education for adults to learn new skills.
“Both events were successful and created a wealth of evidence to support the funding application and have helped to clarify what ours and the surrounding communities need.
“We have consulted with other parish councils to discuss how this project can support their community’s needs.”
The committee wants to thank everyone who has supported the project and expects to hear the outcome of the bid in November.
