Lynn News appeal needs £10k more

GENEROUS fundraisers across West Norfolk are rallying together to raise the last £10,000 needed in the Lynn News Hunstanton Lifeboat Appeal.

The appeal for a new lifesaving inshore lifeboat at Hunstanton's RNLI station has soared past the 115,000 mark – and extra effort is now being made to reach the target by the end of the year.

Residents at a Heacham caravan park dug deep for the cause and raised a fantastic 1,500 throughout the year.

For the third year running caravan owners at the Pioneer Holiday Park on South Beach Road organised a series of events such as quizzes, car boot sales and dances to raise money for charity.

Committee members presented the money to the lifeboat team at the park's Hallowe'en Dance held earlier this month before it closed for the end of the season.

Caravan owner Mrs Iris Copsey said the committee was pleased that even more money was raised than last year, when The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House, Macmillan Cancer Relief and the Air Ambulance received 425 each.

Hunstanton Sailing Club, which raised 1,000 for the appeal last year, is supporting it once again with an evening of fundraising entertainment at the club tomorrow.

Four DJ friends from around Hunstanton, collectively known as The Fat Monkey Project, will be banging out top tunes from 8pm til late, and there will also be live music from a newly-formed band of kitesurfers!

Tickets cost 5 and are available on the door or in advance from the sailing club. Contact club secretary Julia Paul on 01485 541031 for more information.

Members and non-members are invited, with every penny raised on the night going towards the appeal.

Residents at Goodwins Hall nursing home in Goodwins Road, Lynn, also chose to support the appeal and raised 90 with their recent quiz night.

The home holds quizzes every few months for residents, family and staff, and everyone is in aid of charity.

If you're planning an event in aid of the appeal please contact Lynn News appeal co-ordinator Amy Collett on 01553 817323 or you can e-mail her at: amy.collett@lynnnews.co.uk and we'll guarantee to give you publicity.
