Lynn Rotarians ride to rescue

LYNN Rotary Club has galloped to the rescue of West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled Association with a gift of £1,100 to help meet its running costs.

Until March this year the association was funded by the Lottery, but now it depends heavily on local funding to keep the riding and carriage driving lessons going at its Magpie Centre at Wallington Hall, near Stow Bardolph.

Association chairman Rosie O'Grady said: "Lynn Rotary Club has helped us before and they have been very generous again and given us this money to continue the work we are doing at the Magpie Centre."

Club president Howard Moore and past president Kathy Britton dropped in last week to handover the 1,100 cheque to Mrs O'Grady, centre manager Rachel Hurcomb and deputy manager Mel Tomlinson.

Riding and carriage driving lessons take place five days a week. The Local Network Fund gives the centre a grant for special programmes during school holidays and at half-term, and funds evening sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the summer months.

Mrs O'Grady said: "These evening sessions and holiday programmes have been a great success and we hope to continue running them next year, but we are still in need of further funding."
