Parts of a historic hotel in Lynn could be getting a make-over if new plans are approved.

Surya Hotels wants to re-decorate the front and side elevations of the Duke’s Head Hotel, Tuesday Market Place.

The application also proposes to alter lighting and signage to advertise a new bar, along with removing a wall and door.

The application was lodged with West Norfolk Council’s planning department last week.

The design and access statement says: “The proposal is to remove the existing floodlights and to replace them with six floodlights (warm white colour) positioned underneath the decorative cornice at eaves level to shine downwards. In addition two floodlights will be positioned above the eaves cornice, shining upwards.

“This new arrangement will light the whole building rather than half of it.”

There are also proposals to put up three new signs to highlight the new bar which is being created at the hotel.

The design and access statement says: “The new signs are required to advertise the new bar facility “Massey & Co” being created inside the property.

“Massey & Co is the name of the bank which once occupied the building.”
