A man is in police custody this morning following a crash in which a woman was seriously injured late last night.

Emergency crews were called to Norwich Road, near the North Pickenham Road junction, at around 11.50pm after a blue Peugeot 206 left the road and collided with a telegraph pole.

A female passenger was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with serious injuries. She is said to be in a stable condition.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of taking the vehicle without the consent of the owner.

He was taken to the police investigation centre at Saddlebow, where he remained in custody at the time of going to press.

Police say they want to hear from anyone who saw the crash or how the car was being driven prior to it.

Witnesses should contact PC Chris Bradley, of the Swaffham roads policing unit, via the non-emergency 101 number.
