A man was seen staggering and falling into one of Lynn’s busiest roads while pushing a buggy carrying a young child, a court has heard.

John McDonnell, 35, pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk in charge of a child when he appeared before magistrates on Monday.

The court heard police were called to London Road on February 25 after McDonnell, formerly of Waterloo Street, Lynn, had been seen on CCTV staggering and pushing the buggy into walls.

A breath test showed McDonnell was almost three times the drink-drive limit at the time.

McDonnell, who represented himself, said he had been in a “bad phase” of his life at the time.

He added: “It was a very, very wrong thing to do.”

Magistrates fined him £65, plus £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
