A man has been arrested and bailed after ramraiders attempted to steal a safe from the post office in Hockwold during the early hours of Saturday.
Police say raiders broke into the premises in Malts Lane between 3.30 and 3.47am.
They then used a Mitsubishi Pajero off-road vehicle in order to remove a large safe from the building.
However, they fled empty-handed after they were unable to load the item into the truck, fleeing in the Mitsubishi and a red or orange convertible Peugeot car.
Both vehicles were later found abandoned nearby and a 35-year-old man was arrested in Feltwell on suspicion of attempted burglary.
He was subsequently questioned at the Saddlebow police investigation centre, before being released on bail until September 1, pending further inquiries.
Detectives have appealed for anyone who witnessed the raid, or who saw either of the vehicles in the area to come forward.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det Con Larissa Foreman, of Lynn CID, via the non-emergency 101 number.
Witnesses can also contact Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555111 with any information.
