A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer following an incident in Lynn’s town centre at the weekend.
Officers were attending a disturbance in Norfolk Street at around 12.30am on Saturday when the incident happened.
A Norfolk Police spokesman yesterday said the female officer had suffered facial injuries in the incident.
Jamie Watts, 52, of Church Road, Walpole St Peter, was subsequently charged with assaulting a police officer and racially aggravated harassment.
He was released on bail to appear before magistrates in Lynn on April 27.
The incident was widely condemned after details were released on social media over the weekend.
Norfolk Police and Crime Commissioner Lorne Green said the incident was “so wrong” and reiterated the force’s intention to introduce body cameras for frontline officers.
The technology was demonstrated in public for the first time during a meeting held at West Norfolk Council’s headquarters in Lynn last month.
