A man accused of being involved in abducting and assaulting a couple suspected of killing his elderly relative has been cleared of two of the charges against him.
Jason Chilton, 27, was found not guilty of wounding with intent and causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Norwich Crown Court on Monday.
Jurors acquitted him on the direction of Judge Stephen Holt, following lengthy legal arguments late last week.
However, Chilton, of Dades Lane, Wisbech, remains on trial accused of kidnap and false imprisonment, which he denies.
Following the ruling, lawyers for Chilton and six other defendants accused of being involved in the attacks on the couple opened their case.
Vanessa Frankham, 48, of Wisbech Road, Walpole St Andrew, denies kidnap, blackmail, and robbery.
Violet Chilton, 57, of Dades Lane, Wisbech, is charged with blackmail, false imprisonment and wounding with intent.
Edward Dolan, 18, of Flower Farm Bungalow, Walpole, and Thomas Chilton, 29, of Dades Lane, Wisbech, are both accused of kidnap, false imprisonment and wounding with intent.
Diane Evans, 18, of Cherry Road, Wisbech, is charged with false imprisonment, while a 17-year-old youth is charged with kidnap, false imprisonment and wounding with intent. The trial continues.
