Man killed in blazing Gaywood house

INQUIRIES are today continuing into a house fire at Gaywood yesterday in which a man died.

Firefighters were called to an address on Charlock, on the Grange Estate, off Wootton Road, at around 1.20pm and spent 40 minutes battling the blaze before it was fully extinguished at 2pm.

Details of the incident were very limited at the time of going to press and the police could only confirm that the body of a man was found at the scene.

Police officers remained at the address yesterday afternoon, and were present again today, while an alleyway to the rear of the property was also cordoned off.

Fire investigators and forensic officers from the Home Office were due to carry out a detailed of examination of the house, police and forensic scientists having launched an investigation.

Norfolk fire service spokesman Martin Barsby said: "Two crews from Lynn attended and police later cordoned the area off.

"We are now working very closely with the police on this incident and fire investigation officers will be at the scene."

Mr Barsby said there are no indications of what caused the fire at this stage. Further details of the incident are expected to be released by the police.
