Soldiers serving with RAF Marham’s 2 Squadron in Afghanistan have had a supply of treats and sweets thanks to staff at a Lynn care provider.

Penelope Ahmed, care co-ordinator at Mears, prompted the effort because her son-in-law Cpl Jay Bentley is serving with the squadron.

Since January, Mears’ 450 staff in and around Lynn have been collecting tea, coffee, biscuits, toiletries and snacks to send out to the troops.

Mrs Ahmed said: “I would like to thank everyone who has supported the troops by contributing to the Mears ‘ packages and making a difference to our community who are serving out country.

“I received a message from my son-in-law to say thank you on behalf of the squadron who are so pleased to receive the packages and really appreciate that we are thinking of them.”
