Marina: Labour group's concerns

CONSULTATION on Lynn's controversial waterfront development is to continue despite the question mark hanging over the project.

West Norfolk Council is holding two further consultation events in the coming week, but it has been accused of ignoring the strong public feeling regarding the loss of Harding's Pits Doorstep Green.

Councillor Andy Tyler, Labour leader, said: "Although the administration says it is listening to what is being said, we in the Labour group still have concerns and are not fully convinced of that."

Council leader Mr Nick Daubney said: "They are accusing us of not listening, but they could not be more wrong. All these things are being considered and taken into account. They are making some points very strongly and we are listening. At the end of the day, we are trying to do what is right for Lynn and West Norfolk."

Councillor Jason Law, cabinet member of regeneration said: "Our consultation events attracted more than 120 people who have provided feedback on the landscaping proposals and provided some really positive and constructive.

"Many people who came to the earlier consultation event said that having the opportunity to discuss the waterfront scheme had helped them to understand what we were trying to achieve and many went away feeling better informed and were positive about the proposals.

"Understandably many people feel passionate about this area of green space, which is exactly why we want to work with local people to find ways to provide the elements they value – natural habitats, increased wildlife, good access routes and cycle ways and a place to get away from the hustle and bustle."

Residents can view and comment on proposals during a South Lynn fun day from noon at Winfathing Road on Sunday and at the Green Quay Discovery Centre at 2pm and 6pm next Wednesday.
