West Norfolk Borough Mayor, Barry Ayres, visited the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Lynn on earlier this month, meeting trust chairman, Edward Libbey alongside assistant director of Nursing, Valerie Newton. Mr Ayres, who was accompanied by his wife Christine, was particularly interested to see the recently modified Accident and Emergency Unit where he met staff and discussed the work that they do in the unit. This was in fact the second time in recent months that the mayor had visited the department as earlier in the year he had a short stay as a patient in A&E and the Medical Assessment Unit.

The mayor was full of praise for the care he had received as a patient when he last visited the hospital and said that he felt staff had managed to turn around what could have been a very traumatic experience.

Mr Libbey said “It was a pleasure to have his Worship the Mayor visit the hospital and to hear his very positive comments regarding our staff and facilities. What makes this especially important is that the Mayor is speaking from personal experience”. Photo: SUPPLIED
