Wighton village decided to bring on the clowns to give local children a day of mime and entertainment in June, 1979.
A visit by The Clowns’ Mime Theatre was arranged and about 90 children turned up at the village recreation hut for lessons on the art of mime. In the evening, at All Saints’ Church, members of the theatre gave a special performance of their show. The children were taught how to climb up imaginary rope ladders and walk along imaginary tight-ropes. They each paid 50p to take part and tickets for the evening show were £1, with about £70 profit made in aid of church funds.
