Upset children, backed by parents, governors and teachers, spoke out against the decision to close Old Hunstanton Voluntary Controlled School in April, 1985.
It was described in the village as a “happy place of learning”, but education chiefs had condemned such schools as impractical both educationally and financially. Governor and parent Julia Vittle put pen to paper and wrote to Prime Minister Mrs Margaret Thatcher asking her to use her influence to keep the school open. Pictured in a classroom are some of the pupils and teacher Mrs Margaret Slaney.
