Fairstead School in Lynn was reckoned to be one of the larger primary schools in the area in 1984.

At the ages of six and seven, these pupils facing the Lynn News photographer were in the last year of the infant’s section – called the third year infants.

There were about 70 pupils in that section and they were taught by Mrs Valerie Prior, Mrs Karen Crawley and Mrs Jan Hubbard.

From those classes the children would be moving on to their first junior section – the first year juniors for those aged seven and eight.
