Fitness enthusiasts are being urged to work up a sweat for charity by taking part in a world record attempt in Lynn later this month.
More than 60 people have already signed up to the Mega Metafit exercise event in The Walks – but more than 300 are needed to make it the biggest Metafit class ever.
The event has been organised by West Norfolk physical trainer Mark Flowers, who runs Motiv8 Exercise and Fitness, and friend Sallyanne Ellington to raise money in memory of her dad.
Miss Ellington’s father Michael Jeffrey died of renal cancer on her eldest daughter Sophie’s first birthday, on April 13 seven years ago, aged just 51.
To celebrate his life on that day, Miss Ellington will be running the London Marathon in aid of the Institute of Cancer Research UK – and is aiming to raise around £3,500.
Miss Ellington started attending Mr Flowers’ exercise classes in Lynn and Wisbech last year to build up her strength ahead of the challenge, and he offered to help her reach her target.
“We came up with the idea of the charity Metafit event, and then thought why don’t we try and make it the biggest one ever?” she said.
“It’s my first ever marathon. It’s always something that has been on my bucket list to do, but when I found out it was on the anniversary of my dad passing away I pushed myself to do it this year. It’s going to be a very poignant and emotional day but I’m really looking forward to it.”
Miss Ellington will be joined on route in the capital by sister Stacey Rudd, who will be running the 26.2 miles in aid of Cancer Research UK, and cheered on by daughters Sophie, who will be eight on the day, and Kirsten, 6.
The Mega Metafit event is being held near the Linnets football stadium in The Walks on Saturday, March 29, between 10am and 11am. The class will cost £5 or whatever you can afford, with every penny going to the cause.
