MP seeks to keep Marham as key Tornado base
SOUTH West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss is keeping up the pressure for RAF Marham to be the sole location for the RAF’s Tornado fighter force.
Yesterday, she was due to ask Defence Secretary Liam Fox about what consultation he plans before determining the future of the West Norfolk base, during Defence Questions in the House of Commons.
On Thursday, she has arranged a meeting with Dr Fox and that evening she has secured an adjournment debate in the Commons on the future of RAF Marham.
Her moves come after a high-profile weekend rally, attended by Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, to try and get RAF Lossiemouth chosen as the preferred location for the Tornado force.
Ms Truss said: “It will be wrong for politics to trump economics.
“It will cost an estimated £50m to move the engineering capabilities from RAF Marham.”
