A new commander has taken control of the three Tornado squadrons at RAF Marham.
Group Captain Steve Ward succeeded Air Commodore Harvey Smyth at the head of the units, along with a conversion squadron based at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland, last Thursday.
Group Captain Ward, pictured above with Air Commodore Smyth, described the appointment as “humbling” after 25 years’ RAF service.
He said: “It is with pride that I take on the responsibility for a force that has continually delivered on operations over a 25 year period, a level of achievement that has been wholly underpinned by the quality of its personnel.
“I look forward to the challenge of assuring that the Tornado Force continues to deliver on operations as we enter the final few years of service.”
Air Commodore Smyth said: “It has been an absolute privilege to command the Tornado Force for this last year.
“The force’s achievements during this period have been exemplary, be that expanding the fight against Daesh beyond Iraq into Syria, or working with industry to develop engineering plans to maintain three front line squadrons until 2018.”
