Separating or divorcing families can now find the help they need to protect and support their children thanks to a range of new charity services on offer across West Norfolk.

North Norfolk charity Break has launched a new advice and support service through Families House for families that are going through separation.

The project aims to minimise the impact on children through providing guidance to help lower the levels of social isolation and improve the well-being of parents.

A weekly drop-in session is held at West Lynn Deaf Centre on Mondays from 10am to 12pm and offers one-to-one time with trained staff.

Suzanne Bryant, manager of Families House, said: “Separation is an extremely stressful time for any parent, particularly when your world has been turned upside down, you’re an emotional wreck and you’re trying to keep things ‘normal’ for your children.

“Join us for a cup of tea, meet other parents or speak to a project worker. Individual and group support is also available, call to book an appointment.”

There will also be the opportunity to join a six-week course aimed at making parents feel more confident, better informed and more able to support their children.

The next course starts on April 30 at Fakenham Sure Start Centre and childcare will be provided.

For more information, call Emma Cameron and Suzanne Bryant on 01603 621702.

The Volunteer Befriending Scheme supports families where a parent of child has a disability or illness and a child in the family is given caring responsibilities.

As part of the Norfolk Young Carers Support Service volunteers offer up to three hours each week, providing friendship, a listening ear or support with practical tasks such as shopping.

The next training course starts on May 12.

If you would like to volunteer, contact Clare Thompson on 01603 621702 for more details.

There is also a telephone helpline which is open on Monday from 10am to 12pm, and Tuesday 5.30 to 7pm, on 01603 670797.
