Sutton Bridge residents will soon have daily face-to-face advice available just around the corner – thanks to new technology.

For the past six years, residents with problems have only been able to access help once a month in Long Sutton, provided by advisers from the Spalding Citizens Advice Bureau.

But plans for a new service at the Curlew Centre has been welcomed.

The project pilot was meant to start this month but, due to issues with the delivery of the equipment, so it is still uncertain when the service will begin.

However, it is proposed to operate a pilot until the end of the year to get advisors, staff and members of the public familiar with the technology and then to have a full launch and service provision from January.

The service will be offered for two hours each day, five days a week, with the aid of a free video link and telephone access from the Curlew Centre.

Lisa Barwell, chief officer of the Citizens Advice Bureau in South Holland, said: “By employing present-day, simple-to-use technology that many of us use in our everyday lives, we will be able to provide a really enhanced advice service to communities located miles away from our town centres.

“Residents in Sutton Bridge and the surrounding area will be able to get free, quality, face-to-face advice every weekday without travelling very far.”

Helen Barber, of the Curlew Centre, said: “It’s vital that local residents can get help and advice when they need it most. Having the friendly face of a professional adviser just around the corner will be a tremendous boost to the community and nearby villages.”

Volunteers are needed to help the centre deliver the service and Helen said: “We want to ensure that we play our part in helping the CAB to help us.

“If you can spare two hours or more each week to provide voluntary help as a Curlew Centre receptionist with training provided to help CAB clients, we’d love to hear from you.”
