The death of a friend with a young family inspired Ian Prentice to raise funds for a charity which helps children where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism.
Ian, of North Wootton, wanted to lose a few stone this year and in doing so wanted to help raise awareness and funds for the National Association for Children of Alcoholics.
His friend had died last year as a result of alcohol abuse and left behind two daughters, who were just 14 and ten at the time.
To help him lose the pounds, Ian joined his friend Jo Jackson’s Slimming World Group, which meets in Hunstanton’s Community Centre.
He lost 10lb in his first week and is on his way to achieving his target loss of four stone.
Anyone who would like to sponsor Ian and help raise funds for NACAO, can call him on 07720 319683.
From Sunday February, 9, NACOA is celebrating Children of Alcoholics Week raising awareness of the problems thousands of children face whose parents have alchohol-related problems.
Jo said: “It is a great incentive to losing weight knowing that in helping yourself you are also helping others.”
Her group meets every Tuesday at 5.30pm and 7.30pm and she can be contacted on 07942 818059 for more information.
