One-stop shop opens in Hunstanton
HUNSTANTON'S £500,000 one-stop shop for children and families officially opened last Friday.
The Surestart Children's Centre will provide childcare and support services for parents and carers and has links to health care, education and employment.
It has been built next to the community centre in Avenue Road and has a grassed area, consultation room, nursery and baby room. Services available will include childcare for the under-fives, baby music groups, sessions with a health worker, baby massage and opportunities for parents' groups and training.
The consultation room can be used by a range of agencies, including health workers and staff from Jobcentre Plus and the nursery, formerly at Hunstanton Infants School, has also moved to the new centre.
Norfolk County Council has led the development in partnership with the infants school and Rosalie Monbiot, the council's cabinet member for childfren's services, unveiled a plaque at the opening ceremony.
She said: "This is a first-class facility in the heart of Hunstanton, which will benefit many generations of children and families. The centre will provide health, education and support services under one roof, making them more accessible to families in the area and providing them with a range of services right on their doorstep.
"Surestart children's centres are aimed at improving the life chances of children and raising the aspirations of children, their parents and carers."
By the end of this year the county council will have opened 36 Surestart centres, moving the county closer to its ambition of having a centre within easy reach of every community.
