Dog owners have been warned to ensure their pets ‘ vaccinations are up to date after an outbreak of parvovirus.
A vet in Lynn has said there has been an upsurge in the number of dogs with diarrhoea and vomiting, which are symptoms of the condition.
Alex Dallas, principal vet at Lynn’s London Road Veterinary Centre, said: “There has been an outbreak in Lincolnshire and inevitably dogs will travel.
“With us being a bit of a holiday hotspot, some cases will come this way.”
Mr Dallas said he has seen two or three dogs displaying symptoms associated with parvovirus.
He added: “The critical thing is that local dogs need to be vaccinated. Even if they don’t travel, the issue is, the bug does.”
Parvovirus can prove fatal if prompt treatment is not given, especially in dogs that are very young, very old or have other conditions.
Dogs should be vaccinated annually to be fully protected.
