Plans for almost 100 new homes each in King’s Lynn and Downham Market set for approval

Developers will be allowed to move the access point to a new 95-home development into a neighbouring cul-de-sac despite objections, it appears.

Residents were backed by their MP and borough councillor in a fight to prevent the plan at Russett Close, in Gaywood’s Reffley Estate.

But West Norfolk Council’s planning committee is recommended to approve it when it meets on Monday.

A report to the committee said: “Development should only be prevented or refused on transport grounds where the residual cumulative impacts of development are severe. The impacts of the proposed development are not considered to be severe.”

Henry Bellingham, North West Norfolk MP, and Michael Langwade, the area’s borough councillor, joined 35 individuals in objecting to the proposal.

Mr Langwade said: “Any increase in traffic flow (700 plus movements per day) due to the proposed new development would be highly detrimental to this peaceful neighbourhood.”

Permission is already in place for the principle of 95 homes on the site, south of Russett Close, with an access from the south. A delay with a bridge to serve that access, through the old dairy site, is holding up the development, the report said.

* Plans for 97 new homes at Downham are also recommended for approval.

The proposal, for land between Railway Road and Richmond Road, includes bungalows, two-storey family homes and 19 affordable homes.
