Work to expand a busy Lynn road junction to accommodate a new housing development will start next month, county roads chiefs have announced.

Drivers are being warned to expect disruption during the project at the junction of John Kennedy Road and North Street, which is expected to continue until mid-March.

The project, which is due to start on Tuesday, January 6, will see the existing T junction turned into a crossroads.

The work is being carried out to accommodate the new housing development on the site of the former Zoots nightclub, which was granted planning permission last year.

Norfolk County Council resident engineer Quentin Brogdale said the project was expected to take around 10 weeks to complete.

He said: “To construct the works we need to remove the existing signals and erect temporary three-way lights as the number of existing lanes will need to be reduced.

“The lights will be manually controlled to help reduce queues, although some delays are inevitable.

“A controlled pedestrian crossing will be provided.”

The project will also include the installation of new utility supplies, plus the diversion of existing underground electric and telephone cables.
