Elliot and Scott Ryan from Downham, currently competing in the Maxxis ACU British Sidecarcross Championship, decided to compete in the feeder ACU British Clubmans Sidecar Motorcross Championship at the weekend for some much needed extra track time at Diss.
Qualifying 10th on the tight and technical track, the conditions improved from the damp conditions of the morning eventually drying to cause several dusty areas around the track.
The first race saw the brothers hitting the first turn in second position but after several battles with the main championship contenders they dropped to finish ninth – which was still an improvement on their original qualifying position.
The pit crew set about alterations to the machines set up with a new smaller diameter wheel going in at the front end to aid better cornering and to stop the front pushing away in the corners.
Race two saw a good start into the first turn. The Ryan brothers were constantly in the thick of it trading blows at what seemed like every turn. They finished in eighth position, the alterations obviously improving the Honda powered outfit’s handling.
In the final race the brothers rode with an even more determined spirit. The riding seemed a little more consistent with a better rhythm being achieved and sustained throughout each lap. They came in eighth position but may well have finished higher if it was not for the fact that outfit passenger Scott lost his footing and fell into the rear sprocket leaving some nasty bruising.
Elliot, realising they were probably pushing a little too hard, backed off a little for the last laps. Their overall position for the day was ninth. The pair would like to thank their sponsors, family and friends for making the day possible.
