A North Norfolk pre-school previously rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted has now been told that standards need to improve.

Happy Faces Playgroup, based at Blenheim Park Primary School in Sculthorpe, has been told it ‘requires improvement’ following an inspection last month.

Despite receiving praise for meeting the needs and well-being of the children, the education watchdog said the playgroup does not meet legal requirements as it failed to notify Ofsted of changes to committee members.

It also failed to ensure that all members completed suitability checks, however, this has had “little negative impact on children’s welfare and safety” as the members are not involved in key decision making.

A report, published last week, said the playgroup’s outdoor environment was also not currently used effectively to promote children’s learning.

Inspector Hayley Ruane said the pre-school has many strengths, and partnerships with parents and external agencies are well established, ensuring each child’s care and learning needs are well met.

She said staff know children well as individuals, plan effectively for their learning, and offer them good support.

Children are also happy, confident, well-behaved and settled.
