It was a day of celebration in Lynn on Saturday as students’ hard work was recognised at the College of West Anglia’s annual graduation day.
A total of 146 students have graduated from 15 programmes this year and they received their certificates in a ceremony held at the town’s Corn Exchange.
The college works in partnership with the Anglia Ruskin University to deliver higher education courses in subjects as diverse as mechanical engineering and equine studies.
Principal David Pomfret said: “Our commitment to higher education has never been stronger and we want to raise aspirations, meet local employer skill needs and provide greater opportunities for everyone.”
During the ceremony, two special awards were presented to Mandy Graves and Robert Bickers.
Mandy, who achieved First Class honours in her English and Sociology degree course, received the Anglia Ruskin University Alumni Award from Dr Apurba Kundu.
Her tutors said: “Her commitment and her desire to learn continued throughout the programme and culminated in a major project which demonstrates her unique skills and a level of academic theory that reflects Mandy’s effort and dedication in the face of difficult and demanding challenges in her personal and family life.
“Mandy is an exceptional student who thoroughly deserves this award.”
Meanwhile, Robert who graduated with First Class honours in Computer Science, received the University Centre West Anglia Student of the Year award from Chris Challender.
His citation praised both his “outstanding effort and commitment” and his willingness to support fellow students with advice and suggestions. It went on: “Robert took on a mentoring & support role with younger students on the Information Technology and Games Design courses where he organised a series of project workshops which generated positive feedback from students.
“Robert has been an inspiration to his fellow students with his strong work ethic and quiet determination to give his best and he is a deserving recipient of this award ”
And Mr Pomfret told the graduates: “Each of you has made the most of what the college has offered you. Your hard work and commitment has paid off. Like my colleagues and I, you should be extremely proud of what you have achieved.
He added: “You have a bright future ahead of you. Be ambitious about what you can achieve in the future.”
