Snettisham Beach Sailing Club hosts its annual Open Day, part of the national RYA Push the Boat Out activities, tomorrow between 10am and 3pm.
This is an ideal opportunity for anyone, irrespective of age and experience, interested in sailing, to come and sample the facilities offered by the club.
There will be sailing on the lake and sea for both adults and juniors, supervised and supported by the staff from the training centre and club members, together with an all day barbecue. For sea sailing you will need to arrive at 10am.
To go on the water you will need to wear shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting wet; all other specialist clothing and equipment will be provided.
SBSC is now entering its 76th season of sailing on the Wash.
The club has gone from strength to strength and developments in recent years have seen it become the premier club on the Norfolk coast, with more training, racing and social sailing than ever in the 2015 season.
Commodore Adrian Tebbutt said: “We are the only club to offer a training programme for adults and juniors that operates from April to October.
“In addition to being an accredited Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training centre we are also an RYA Champion Club, which recognises our commitment to deliver safe, effective race training and the ongoing development of our young sailors.
“We are regularly inspected and licensed by both the RYA and Adventure Activities Licensing Authority, recognising our good practice and safety management systems, providing one of the safest environments to start sailing at whatever age you are.
“We are unique amongst coastal clubs in having a non-tidal gravel pit on which to sail in addition to the open sea of the Wash. This means that beginners can start to sail in calm and safe environment of the lake.”
The Training Centre offers a full range of RYA sailing and related courses for complete beginners through to experienced sailors, including: Stages 1-4 for 8-17 year olds; Levels 1-3 for 16+ year olds; Ladies only sailing groups; and RYA Powerboat and Safety Boat courses.
