Staffordshire Bull Terrier Alfie is the Lynn News Star Pet for 2013 after readers voted for him in their droves.

The six-year-old rescue dog is a familiar figure at Top Cat and Tails pet shop in Hunstanton where mother and daughter Theresa and Stacey Minns concede their pet is better known than they are.

“Customers say hello to Alfie before they speak to us,” said Stacey, 18, who entered him into the competition.

“He’s a lovely dog, a real softie, and winning is good for him and for Staffies because they have a reputation they don’t deserve.”

Former Smithdon pupil Stacey chose Alfie from Eau Brink RSPCA Rehoming Centre five years ago and he settled immediately in their house in Cherry Tree Road, Snettisham.

Theresa has owned the pet shop in Hunstanton for three years and Stacey works there as an assistant.

Our Star Pets contest ran in association with sponsors, Picanova. After sending in photos earlier last year, all entrants were published in a special feature, and readers voted for their favourites!

Stacey will have her favourite photograph produced as a canvas, acrylic or aluminium print of her choice (up to a value of £100).
