Students and staff at Eastgate Academy took part in a fun run on Wednesday. Everyone ran 500 metres each, resulting in a total distance equivalent to that of a marathon in an energising event aimed at making exercise fun.
Year groups took it in turns to complete their distances alongside their teachers.
Teacher Sam Blayney said: “I hold a running club at lunchtime and the idea for the fun run spiralled from that. “With the younger generation leading such a technology-based lifestyle now, I really believe in getting the children up and moving, to help them lead a healthy lifestyle and incorporate exercise in to their weekly routine. There was a great response to the idea and I think everyone has really enjoyed themselves.”
