A packed market full of festive treats will be among an array of seasonal delights on offer when Swaffham’s Christmas lights are switched on next month.
The event will take place in the Market Place on Sunday, December 7 at 4.30pm, with KL.FM presenter Simon Rowe starting the countdown to the unveiling of the display, which is co-ordinated by the Swaffham Business Forum.
The market will be open from 11am with live entertainment starting at 2pm. Some roads around the square will be also closed to accommodate both extra market stalls and a funfair. Organisers have also thanked traders for booking their pitches early.
Other attractions on the day will include a Great Swaffham Bake-Off competition, for which the first 50 entries will cost only £1 and is set to include a wider range of categories this year, plus the arrival of Father Christmas to take up residence in his grotto in the Assembly Rooms.
Town mayor Shirley Matthews said: “I am looking forward to the Christmas festivities in the town this year, as the excitement begins to build and we still have a few weeks to wait. It is a bit like waiting for Christmas itself.
“We hope for the large crowds we had last year as some businesses stay open in the Town Centre adding to the occasion.”
Town clerk Richard Bishop added: “Events like this take some planning and this one is no exception.
“There is still room for a few more volunteers and if anyone out there has a few hours to give us on December 7, we would be pleased to hear from you.
“It is days like this when you see the town at its best.”
Anyone interested in helping on the day, or who would like more information about the events, should contact the town council on 01760 722922.
