Renewable energy developer RES is encouraging residents eligible to apply for its Local Electricity Discount Scheme to submit their applications by the deadline on January 31 to ensure they receive the first payment of £100 once the Jack’s Lane wind farm, near Syderstone, becomes fully operational.

Postcards containing information on how to apply for the annual discount began arriving on the doorsteps of 400 qualifying properties in mid-December.

Sam Mayes, community relations manager, said: “It’s been very exciting to reach this milestone in the project which will see tangible benefits delivered to the local community hosting Jack’s Lane Wind Farm.

“Now that the turbines are up and are undergoing performance testing, we have been able to kick off the LEDS application process to ensure the first payments can be made as soon as possible after the wind farm becomes fully operational.

“In the first few weeks of the application period, over 30 per cent of eligible properties submitted their applications and electricity supplier details.”
